Responses should begin with a thesis, that is, a direct answer or position on a given prompt.
The student should then list their supporting arguments, that is their reasons why they have taken that position on the prompt.
Subsequent paragraphs should then expand on the supporting arguments.
All responses must contain at least three citations from two peer-reviewed journal articles found on JSTOR.
Because EUH 2000 is a Gordon Rule class, students must demonstrate their ability to properly use accepted citation formatting in their fields of study. The Chicago Style for citation formatting (SHORT FORM) is used in the field of History.
This week’s writing prompt:
Scholars and popular culture continuously debate the reasons why people went on Crusade. Some argue that the Crusades were nothing more than an attempt to steal land and wealth from Muslims, and they point to the actions of Crusade leaders as evidence. Others argue that Crusaders honestly believed they were doing God’s work, and they point to the participation of women, children, the elderly, and clergy in the Crusades. Why do you believe people went on Crusade? Was it for power and money, or for faith, or for a combination thereof?
