Your essay should have an introduction that Identifies the works you are discussing, clearly introduces a thesis, has a detailed body that references specific, concrete detail from the texts, and is appropriately documented.
Explore what Stoker, Browning, and Rossetti are arguing about male violence as a response to female sexuality or sexuality. In your essay, at a minimum be sure to discuss:
1. Lucy’s staking and beheading in Stoker’s Dracula
2.Mina’s branding with the cross in Dracula
3.Van Helsing’s staking of the female vampires in Dracula
4. The lover’s reasoning for strangling his partner and his actual strangling of her in Browning’s “Porphria’s Lover.”
5. The goblin assault of Lizzie in Rossetti’s “Goblin Market.”
In brainstorming your thesis for this paper, ask yourself what do these authors have in common in their portrayal of this violence? What are they saying about women and women’s sexuality? What are they saying about men’s responses to women and their sexuality? Your thesis should be sure to reference all three works.
