Jay is a 20-year-old female who began using drugs at age 12 and later became addicted to opioids and alcohol. Jay dropped out of school in the 11th grade when she left home and she became a sex worker. One day she got high after a fight with her partner and decided to go for a drive. Unfortunately, she ran into a car. One of the passengers in the other car suffered a broken wrist and facial lacerations. Jay was convicted of driving under the influence and causing injury. Jay has prior offenses as a juvenile, Jay was diagnosed with depression and PTSD. Her addiction serves as a coping mechanism and allows her to forget being raped by her alcoholic father from the ages of 11 – 16. Jay’s mother committed suicide when she was 10.
