1.Author’s thesis is early on, but admittedly vague – “Korea, however, had an enormous refractory effect back upon the United States. It didn’t brand a generation, and it may be forgotten or unknown to the general public, but it was the occasion for transforming the United States into a country that the founding fathers would barely recognize.” (Cumings, 2)
2.It’s really after page 5 that he gets into the Korean War’s effect on the United States, first laying out how Korea fit into America’s global Cold War policy

4.Chinese Revolution – the end of the Chinese Civil War (1927-1949), when Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party took control of China
