5. Community Assessment and Intervention – Aspiration of Korean undocumented immigrants.

• Provide a description of the community that includes its history and background;its demographic, economic, and political characteristics; and the social institutions present in the community,as well as the identified problem as presented in the case scenario

– Most of the Korean undocumented immigrants come with student visas or tourist visas (B-1/B-2 or F-1) and specialized employee visas.(H-1B)
– Some undocumented immigrants come through the U.S.-Canadian border or U.S.-Mexican border.
– Mostly settled in NYC or LA.
– Most of the Korean undocumented immigrants work in restaurants, shops or offices. They must receive cash for their wages to avoid the government’s attention.
– They are hoping to get statues(permanent residency by marrying a spouse who has a green card or citizenship. Or a company’s green card sponsor.
– There are about 140,000 Korean undocumented immigrants in New York City.
– There are non-profit organizations that help these people, such as MinKwon Center for Community Action and Korean Community Center.
– Also, there is a sanctuary church that helps undocumented immigrants in the U.S.
– I heard they cannot get any support from the government. About 30% of senior citizens who were undocumented are stuck in poverty.
