Each student in this class is required to write short essays on at least eight of the thirteen films that we watch this semester. I expect you to write two pages (500 words) specifically on the question listed beneath each film. Your
answers should be typed and written in standard English. No outside research is required.
This essay’s questions:
Stanley Kubrick was one of the most famous American film directors. What themes and techniques used in
Dr. Strange love, and in other films of his that you may be familiar with, can we associate with him as an “auteur?”
If you are describing formal or technical aspects of the film in your essay, make sure to use the terminology in
Writing About Movies, especially pp. 197-264.
