These are the exact instructions I received from my professor.
The writing assignments in this class provide you with an opportunity to read/hear/view business oriented
materials and relate your own interpretation/assessment of these materials as you would to other business
professionals.
For each of the assignments you are asked to use your critical thinking skills as a student of business, and
specifically strategic management, to form and express your perceptions and opinions of the material.
The paper you submit for this assignment should demonstrate a thoughtful consideration of the issues presented
in the material. This is not a research paper but a reaction paper. Outside materials are not required and their use
may detract from the overall quality of the paper, since what I am looking for are your original thoughts and
ideas. Each assignment will include some comments about the material assigned that may help you get started,
but for these writing assignments there is not one correct answer, since it is about your reaction.
Use headings and subheadings as necessary to help the reader follow your thinking on the
subject. The writing assignment will be judged on content, demonstration of analytical skills,
organization, language, and writing style. The assignment should be 1000 words, double spaced,
1 inch margin, 12 pt Times New Roman or Calibri.
For this Writing Assignment, view two videos and read one brief article.
The first video is of a talk by Thomas Friedman on April 29, 2009 at Yale University. The presentation is called
‘The World is Flat’ and can be viewed at the following link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53vLQnuV9FY
The second video is by Pankaj Ghemawat, recorded on October 22, 2012 as a TED Talk. This presentation is
called ‘Actually the world isn’t flat’. The link for this video is:

The article is: “A new globalization calculus” by Tam Harbert The link is:

Do not summarize the videos or the article. Instead, share your reaction to the contents of the materials. Relate
your own interpretation/assessment, applying logic and critical thinking. Use professional business language
and grammar. Write as you might to your boss or professional colleagues.
Below are some thoughts to get you started. These should not limit your thinking about the
issues presented in the article. Don’t answer the questions, instead use the questions spark your analysis.
What do you find valuable in what you read?
How do the ideas discussed here influence your professional and personal attitudes and beliefs
going forward?
Are you going to tell anyone about this material? Who? Why?
Will this change your understanding of business? How?
