(Don’t worry, all of those links are to short readings) Some things to consider particularly are how this might make you think differently about portrayals of Rosa Parks’ motivation in the Montgomery bus boycotts as just being tired, and why you think Oprah Winfrey, in the speech discussed in the article, connected Recy Taylor’s experience to the #metoo movement?
Discuss the role of men in the movement against gender-based violence, drawing upon the Jackson Katz TED talk. Here you’ll want to discuss the ways that masculinities and the socialization of men in certain kinds of “tough” identities contributes to gender-based violence; how nonetheless codes of masculinity often disappear in conversations about this topic; and finally, the ways that reframing masculinity can help address the issue.
