The essay is divided into 3 sections and 3 sources are provided out of the 5 needed, so onky 2 more are needed to complete the essay.

Section I (Introduction) – Introduce the reader to the war and the homefront in general. Examine the primary sources, do some research about the homefront, and address the following questions in your introduction: What was the general reaction of Americans to the outbreak of war in both Asia and Europe? How did the general temper of the nation change from the mid-1930s to 1941? What changes happened in America because of the outbreak of war? How did the nation change after December 7th, 1941?

Section II – Identify at least three significant issues faced by average Americans on the homefront and discuss the role they played in the lives of individuals. Use the primary documents provided, the documentaries in the class, your own scholarly research in the library databases, the lectures from class, and the textbook to argue why you believe these are the three most significant issues in the lives of individuals and explain why you believe it to be true. You should address the following questions: What impact did the specific issues cause in people’s lives? How did people deal with the issues? What sort of collateral impact do these issues create? How did these issues effect society at-large?
Section III – Discuss how life for average Americans on the homefront changed as the war progressed. Use the primary documents, the documentaries, scholarly research, lectures notes, and/or the textbook to analyze how life on the homefront changed during the course of war. You should address the following questions: What was the initial reaction to the war? What was the reaction when America entered the war? How did the perception of our progress in the war change from 1941-1945? How did the expectations of civilians on the Homefront change as the war progressed? What did the homefront look like by 1945?

Section IV (Conclusion) – Conclude your essay by summing up your overall argument and tying your assertions and the history to the greater world. First, restate the case you have laid out for how the war impacted the lives of everyday Americans during the war. Then, using the primary sources and other resources, analyze the question, do you see anything happening during the war that foreshadowed changes or problems in the future of America? Explain to the reader what those issues are and how America’s experience in the war put focus on them. Finally, address how they are reflected in later society and what impact they have had in American life.
