Paper Brief & Rubric
BRIEF
For your final assignment, you should propose, plan, and write an article or technical report of approximately 3000 words that synthesizes the knowledge you have built up through the course and demonstrates your understanding of the material and ability to analyze pertinent issues. Your writing should argue in support of a point of view, for a particular course of action, or to propose a research study, based on a review of relevant material. This will likely require you to conduct a literature search and follow up on references outside of the readings directly provided.
You may write on a topic of your choice that is relevant to the course, and the topic must be agreed with the professor in advance.
Your paper should contextualize the discussion in i) the current landscape of AI and its implications for society, ii) technical knowledge and fact according to the state of the art, and iii) may draw on perceptions of AI systems by individuals, the media, or society.
You have two choices in terms of style:
• Option 1: You may write in the style of an academic article. Articles in IEEE Technology & Society Magazine
(https://technologyandsociety.org/technology-and-society-magazine/) provide a good benchmark in terms of style and substance.
• Option 2: A technical research report, aimed at leadership within an organization to inform them of a current AI technology and relevant
issues around it, along with recommendations.
All the above should be properly referenced according to standard academic or business style.
10% of the 40% for this (i.e., one quarter of the marks) is for an early draft outline of the article, on which you will receive feedback. This should include at least the main points you plan to argue for, and a proposed structure of the paper that is designed to support them. We will cover how to approach this in classs
