RESEARCH PAPER: UTILIZING THE JOINT PLANNING PROCESS TO ADDRESS
RISING SUICIDE RATES ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
You are the Commanding Officer of a squadron/battalion/destroyer who has experienced a
significant increase in suicides over the past two years. Your immediate superior asks you to
utilize the model of the Joint Planning Process with your leadership team to develop a course(s)
of action to address the problem. How would you approach the issue? How would you define the
problem? What courses of action would you propose? What criteria would you establish to grade
your courses of action? How would you measure success?
INSTRUCTIONS
This research paper must include an introduction that ends with a clear thesis statement. The first
sentence of your conclusion should be a restatement of the thesis. Main points should be clear in
the structure of the paper. For example, key paragraphs should begin with a topic sentence, and
perhaps even the words “First”, “Second”, “Third”, etc. You must include citations to a sufficient
number of appropriate scholarly sources to fully support your assertions and conclusions (which
will likely require more than the minimum number of citations); each paper must contain at least
5 scholarly sources original to this paper.
The research paper should be submitted as a MS Word document.
Your paper must be at least 1200 words double-spaced.
Format in Turabian with default margins, title page, cover page, reference page, and in
12-pt Times New Roman font.
Cite a minimum of five scholarly sources.
