Comparative Political Systems: Electoral Volatility, Ethnic Divisions, and Voter Apathy within the Israeli Political System

* Choose any country. Although I would prefer non-West European cases, it is

acceptable to analyze one, but the standard of assessment will be higher. Also, be
pragmatic in your choices—democratic systems are preferred, but also make sure that
sufficient data exists. I chose Israel
* The paper must be data-driven. This means do relevant calculations that we will be
covering in the second section of the course, such as volatility, the effective number of
parties, and the least squares index. For some countries, these will not be appropriate
calculations. If this is the case, you are expected to compensate with other forms of data,
such as governance indicators, economic performance data, corruption indices, etc.
* The total length should be 12-15 pages doubled-spaced of text, (but several of these
will be calculations and tables). Most papers end up being longer, but limit it to18-20,
max. Formatting is up to you. Chicago style references are preferred in footnotes. Include
a works cited page (not counted in the limit).
* Your paper should have three sections. 1. Introduction—introduce your case, provide
some salient (but concise) historical background, set up the challenge that you will
discuss later. 2. Descriptive Analysis—describe the political system and provide data and
calculations. 3. Prescriptive Analysis—identify a challenge or problem your case faces
and provide your own prescription (preferably institutional). Think about using some data
to document your challenge (like corruption levels, or income inequality). Also, you may
briefly refer to another country as an example or model for reforms in your case.
* References to data sources and course readings are expected, as well as some
supplemental references. A couple of academic articles or book chapters on your country,
on your country’s challenge or on a conceptual issue (e.g., why electoral volatility
matters, why corruption is not a good thing) will improve the final product.

Below I am attaching a guide of a paper written last year with data from 2021, please do not copy it as this will just result in plagiarism strikes. This paper needs to be in reference to the election in 2022. Please just use the paper attached as a guide in terms of the style and formatting of the paper that it needs to mirror. Please also use it in terms of the concepts and content that needs to be discussed in my paper as well. For example, the paper must include calculations in the same fashion that the paper attached uses these calculations to defend their argument.
Please also try to use sources from Lijphart, ArendLijphart, Arend: or some sources from the previous paper. Aditionally, below I have attached some formulas on the calculations and some possible data source websites to use.
