This is a research plan that aims to determine whether health behaviors are associated with illicit drug use in the population of undergraduate college students at California State University, Fullerton. The study’s independent variable is lifetime illicit drug use, while the dependent variable is the full range of knowledge about various methods available to prevent opioid overdose. The hypothesis is that higher lifetime illicit drug use of college students will result in more knowledge of how to prevent opioid drug overdose.

Instructions:
(2-3 pages of text; Table 2 and Figure 1 do not count toward page count.)
• Descriptive Statistics: Briefly summarize the major findings from your descriptive quantitative results. Balance this prose summary with the exhaustive detail that you present in Table 2.
• Table 2: Descriptive Statistics: See lecture slides for details. This should include descriptive results on all your non-sociodemographic variables.
• Relational Statistics: Present the results of your hypothesis test.
o Make sure that you state this clearly in text form.
• Include both the value of your test statistic and your p-value embedded in or at the end of one of your sentences, like this (χ2 = 17.2, p = .021). If you ran a test other than chi-square, of course, you would report a different test statistic; and both numbers here in the directions are only examples.
• Do not forget to state whether you rejected or failed to reject the null hypothesis.

• Figure 1: One figure is required. It can be any type of figure. It should have a clear title and other labels as needed. Make sure it clearly conveys information about one or more of your variables that you think should be emphasized. (Note: If you end up running a correlation to test your hypothesis [this will not necessarily be the correct test for your group], a scatterplot is also required. The scatterplot should be in the appendix with the SPSS output for the statistical test; it cannot be used as the one required figure for the paper. If you do not run a correlation, you should not include a scatterplot.)
