PSY205 – Human Growth & Development Unit 4 Chapter 6 Discussion – 3 parts/paragraphs total 5-8 sentences each. (400 single space)

Read Chapter 6 of the textbook to complete the discussion:

 http://www.oercommons.org/courses/lifespan-development-a-psychological-perspective/view

Note that there are 3 parts to this discussion prompt. You are required to answer all three in one paragraph of 5-8 sentences (three paragraphs total).

Part 1: This unit covers many facets (physical, cognitive, emotional) of adolescent development. Your task for part 1 is to consider your text reading and review the CDC Developmental Milestones handouts under “Additional Resources” to help you to recall the important milestones (ages 12-14 and 15-17). Based on these handouts and what you read in your text, what are some recommendations you would make for parents of children of these ages when it comes to finding a balance between giving young people space and maintaining parental control? How can a parent support a child in discovering who they are while also enforcing rules appropriately? Where is the line between guidance and demands, or parental values versus what a teen feels and thinks (one paragraph required for part 1)? This part of the question may raise some sensitive issues in our conversation, so be sure to approach this topic with kindness and seek to understand diverging views. Please make specific connections to your text or another scholarly source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).
Part 2: For part 2, consider both the text’s material on adolescent brain development and the various factors that may impact this, such as biology and genetics, interpersonal relationships, educational settings, nutrition, and/or possible substance use. You may want to search online for an additional resource to explore related to the aspect of this question that most interests you (be sure to cite it). In one paragraph, discuss what you found and how it relates to brain development. Please make specific connections to your text or another scholarly source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).
Part 3: Choose one major theory discussed in Chapter 6 and explain how that theory can help one understand development in adolescence. How can the knowledge support effective parenting (or perhaps teaching in a school setting)? For example, you might choose Erikson’s Stages (identity versus role confusion for adolescents) or Marcia’s Four Identity Statuses and offer an example to illustrate your understanding. Please make specific connections to your text or another scholarly source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).
Your main post should be a minimum of three fully developed paragraphs (5-8 sentences each) and is due by Day 4 of this week (11:59 pm EST). Please respond to at least two peers in a minimum of 100 words each by Day 7 of this week (11:59 pm EST). The goal is to generate active conversation in which you interact respectfully with each other in order to explore various ways of seeing the material.
