Run one full paragraph (20-25 sentences, single spaced).
Include a Main Thesis (MT), highlighted in turquoise, using Microsoft Word’s highlighter. It’s best to begin the response with the MT. TIP: To ensure that the MT responds explicitly to the prompt, use some of the prompt’s language in MT. One point will be deducted from the score for not highlighting the MT.
Include a minimum of 4 quotations (2 from each text), highlighted in green. The quotations should not run longer than 25 words each. (Note: The quotations should come only from the document itself, not the introduction.) One point will be deducted from the score for not highlighting the evidence.
Highlight your analysis of the quotations in yellow. TIP: A quotation analysis should explain to the reader how the quotation supports the MT. Don’t assume that your audience understands your logic. Explain your logic to your readers. One point will be deducted from the score for not highlighting the analysis.
Include footnote citations. Page numbers are required. Submissions without footnote citations will not be accepted. For instructions on inserting a footnote into a Microsoft Word document, see this website & YouTube video. For instructions on formatting footnote citations, see this website.
No works cited page is required.
Grammar counts. Points will be deducted for serious grammatical and mechanical errors (SGEs) (e.g., possessive, plurals, word confusion, run-on sentences, incomplete sentences, capitalizations) Use Microsoft Word’s grammar tool to help you.
