The paper must address the following content (suggested that you use similar section headings):
1. Saying Yes to Things that Scare You
a. Shonda spends a year saying yes to things that scare her. Explore why she chose to do this. Give several examples of things she said yes to.
b. Discuss situations (at least 3) that you have previously been afraid or unwilling to do.
2. Sense of Humor
a. How does Shonda’s sense of humor affect her experiences throughout her year of yes?
b. Discuss how humor might be helpful to you.
c. Identify at least 2 personality traits of yours that might be helpful to you in saying yes.
3. Support Network
a. Shonda’s publicist, Chris calls Shonda out to prove that it’s not just big talk and to hold her accountable to saying yes to publicity opportunities. Why is having a strong support network so important for Shonda?
b. Describe your own support system. Is this something you need to build up or do you have a strong support network? How does this impact you in saying yes?
4. Saying No
a. Saying yes began to take Shonda away from home too often, away from her children, and from sleep. How does saying yes to saying no allow the pendulum to swing back to moderation?
b. Discuss at least two areas of your life that you want to protect by saying yes to saying no.
5. Impressions and Takeaways.
a. What were your impressions of the book? How has it changed (or not changed) your thinking process as it pertains to courage and boundaries? What stood out to you the most?
b. Identify one area/situation (preferably mentioned above in 1.b.) that you will say Yes to in the future.
- Please note for students who did not read the book, the above questions will be difficult to answer. It is imperative that you have read the concepts before writing the paper. It would be obvious if you did not read the book. 4 to 5 pages in length
