PR Folio: You are to apply your communications skills to develop a PR folio comprising: A media release, A media pitch, Speaking notes for a media event, Two social media posts(with images)

In this assignment, you are to apply your communications skills to develop a PR folio comprising:

  • A media release (400-450 words)
  • A media pitch (100-150 words)
  • Speaking notes for a media event (200-250 words)
  • Two social media posts* (Images are needed)
*Please adhere to platform content guidelines (eg: 280-character maximum for Twitter)

You may base your folio on one of the following scenarios:
  • The University of Melbourne is releasing the results of a major research project
  • A not-for-profit organisation is launching its annual awareness/fundraising campaign
If you are to choose the first one, you need to come up with one specific research project instead of generally saying a project. If you are to choose the second one, you need to choose one real organisation yourself.

The scenarios you choose should be hypothetical, instead of those real-world cases that have already happened.
For each of the scenarios above, you must ensure the PR content you develop is newsworthy. Note, these scenarios are not all inherently newsworthyit is your job to come up with a compelling news angle to generate earned media interest. You may apply a degree of (logical) creative license to these scenarios to complete this task.
You will be assessed on:
  • Your written communication skills, including grammar and clarity of expression
  • Your adherence to PR and new writing conventions
  • The news value of your folio
  • The structure, content and overall suitability of your folio.
Word range: 800 – 1200 words
