Instructions
In Modules 1, 3, 5, and 7 you will be required to write a Self-Reflection Journal that thoroughly answers the provided prompt. The purpose of these assignments is to allow you to explore the concepts from the Reading and Course Materials in more of a real-world context. Psychology of Learning can often feel contrived and separate from our typical function due to its complex principles and nuanced theories. These assignments are designed for you to be able to connect with concepts in a real way and demonstrate that you understand how they directly relate to you and your experiences. These papers should include some connection to the course materials or research but that must not be the focus. The primary purpose is for you to show that you have considered how these concepts pertain to and shape your daily life. These assignments will be viewed only by the instructor and will not be shared with your peers.
Each Application Assignment must be at least 2 – 3 pages (no fewer than 600 words) to ensure adequate depth of reflection and should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx). This assignment utilizes the SafeAssign originality tool. Upon submission, SafeAssign will generate an originality report that detects plagiarism. This report will be sent to your instructor.
Prompt
The power of persuasion among large groups cannot be underestimated as a source of behavioral change or shaping. In some cases, it is easier to persuade a large group to the desired endpoint than a single individual. When writing TV commercials, advertisers are not aiming to convince individuals but, rather, large groups of people to buy their product. The most effective commercials are the ones who can cross gender, racial, and socioeconomic lines and convince people from countless groups to buy the product in question. For this journal entry, consider the most effective TV commercial you have ever seen. You will need to identify three components of the commercial that you feel added to its persuasive power and indicate why. If possible, include a YouTube link for the commercial so it can be viewed when grading your writing. Remember, the effectiveness of the commercial is not necessarily in the size of the product (a toothbrush or a car) but in its ability to convince people that it is needed.
