Topic of the essay is the toxic outcome of a family-first mentality; use it to build a unique argument about the purpose of the novella, My Sister, The Serial Killer.
Rough Draft has been written, it needs to be revised/rewritten.
The essay should analyze specific elements of the texts, employing the critical thinking and analytical skills. In particular, you need to engage in close reading of the text to help you prove your ideas.
The audience for this essay is our class, so you can assume that your reader has read the novel and doesn’t require much plot summary beyond contextualizing the quotes.
Requirements:
-Analysis of at least four quotes from the novella
-At least one outside source
-A developed and engaging introduction
-A strong and narrow thesis claim that shapes the discussion
-Body paragraphs that balance claims, evidence and analysis.
-A creative conclusion that does not simply repeat the ideas already presented in the essay.
Finishing Touches:
-Creative title
-Clear writing style
-Integrated quotes
-MLA format, including a Works Cited page.
Notes for revision of rough drafts:
-Make the thesis more concise, and add something to it about why this matters. Make the argument more creative.
-Make sure body paragraphs directly prove thesis.
-For the fourth, and last quote that is missing, try to choose one that is rich in deeper meaning, one that requires interpretation to understand it. This will allow for critical thinking to be shown as well as adding complexity to the argument.
-The current introduction is very generic and wouldn’t engage the reader (as they already know the story). It also lacks acreative approach: Looking for revision to make it more creative, which could possibly be a good opportunity to include the outside source.
-The current rough draft has too much plot summary and very little analysis of the writing: Looking for ideas that offer more insight.
-Make sure conclusion doesn’t largely repeat earlier ideas.
