Choose a primary source and question from the list below. Each primary source excerpt is
provided on Canvas. The paper should include quotes and citations to the document in question, and
analysis of the evidence. You do not need to do additional research, though you may if you wish.
Length: 5-6 pages
Formatting: Double-spaced, 1” or normal template margins, Times New Roman 12 point or Calibri 11
point font (in other words, don’t play with spacing to pad out a scant paper.) Footnotes in
Chicago/Turabian style.
All students are expected to abide by the OSU code of conduct, and avoid plagiarism and academic
fraud. Students may not work together on this paper.
Submit to the Canvas dropbox by the deadline noted on the syllabus. All essays will be run through
Turnitin.
Sources: Use the readings provided. If you wish to do additional research, use only books or journal
articles located through the OSU library. You may not use any of the following: encyclopedias,
textbooks, book reviews, websites, Wikipedia, Google Scholar, books found on Amazon or in popular
bookstores. Use of non-academic sources is an automatic failing grade
