For my essay, I’ll probably will use the text “ Genesis” to identify a contemporary issue when it comes to human diversity. For many years now, the topic of how religion and the LGBTQ+ community clash has been an ongoing debate, as some religious communities have been opposed to the idea of same-sex relationships and non-binary identities/pronouns. However, there are religious communities that actually support these individuals and who look pass this historic idealogy that the bible made. These communities look at the greater picture and recognize the LGBTQ+ community as regular unsinning people. This creates a complex and nuanced issue that touches on both personal beliefs and broader social and political questions.
Professor comments to be included: you may consider the gender binary presented in Genesis and how contemporary critics of transgender rights might try to appeal to these biblical categories as universal or somehow original and therefore authoritative. The question, in this case, would be something along the lines of: why do we accept the bible’s authority on questions of an individual’s gender identity?
