Read a book and reflect. This assignment meets General Education Goal 2: Students graduating from West Chester University will be able to think critically and analytically. The specific Student Learning Outcome being assessed is the ability to “Construct and/or analyze arguments in terms of their premises, assumptions, contexts, conclusions, and anticipated counterarguments.” In addition, this assignment also meets Global Awareness Pathway Certificate Program Goal: Critical Thinking Skills:2. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will develop critical analytical skills as well second language skills that enable them to successfully engage in a global context. Specifically: 2d. Students will show respect and empathy for diversity.

ii. Pages are designated in the course schedule for uploading reading responses to D2L as designated in D2L (3×3%). 750 words. Responses should address the following questions:

• What point(s) did I find especially interesting or helpful?

• What point(s) did I disagree with?

• How does the reading help you better understand the community you live in with regard to power, privilege, and difference?

• How does the reading connect the understanding that the personal is global and global is personal?

• What point(s) did I find confusing or muddled?

I will grade the responses on a pass/no pass or “good faith” system. This means if you turn

in the notes on time you will get credit for them.



iii. Students will submit a reflection paper (11%) about the book they discussed and read over the semester. The paper should be 750-1000 words. The paper be submitted via D2L as designated. The paper should include the title of the book and respond to the following questions:

• Why did you choose this book? How were your expectations met or missed?

• Why do you think the author decided to tell the story through a graphic novel?

• What moments from this text stood out to you? Why?

• Did you find this storytelling method effective? Why?

• Who do you think is the intended audience? Explain.

• This graphic novel has been banned by some school districts and libraries. After reading the book what would you say to those places?

• How does the book connect to what we have discussed in class?

• What else would you like to say about the novel?
