14.1. Corporal Wilbur Fisk, Excerpts from Letters to the Green Mountain Freeman (May 20, 1862, and April 7, 1864)*

Create the 5-paragraph submission covering the following:

  1. Paragraph 1: Describe the document/source. Who wrote it, when, and where? Do you know who the author is by name? Do you know anything else about the author?
  2. Paragraph 2: Why do you think the author wrote the document? What was the author’s motivation for writing? Did s/he have an intended audience? Can you discern any characteristics of the audience?
  3. Paragraph 3: What kinds of conclusions can you draw from the source? What does this document reveal about the author and the society that produced it?
  4. Paragraph 4: What do we learn about the time period in which the document was written? How does it help us better understand the historical period in which it was produced? Consider the main textbook readings and connect the primary source to the historical narrative discussed. Do the experiences that are described in the document relate to the history that we have read about in the main textbook? PROVIDE specific details along with page number citations.
  5. Paragraph 5: Pick one important theme in the source. Find and quote a brief passage that highlights this theme and discuss its importance and what you learned from the document.
Each paragraph must be substantial, at least 6-8 sentences in length, comprising a total of a minimum of 300-350 words for your Main Post. Again, write the entire post using a word processing program, then copy/paste or type it directly into the Blank Box with a Title and using a standard citation style for the sources including both in-text citations as well as your source citation.

Attached is also the primary document to write about.
