PSY205 – Human Growth & Development Unit 7 Chapter 9 Discussion – 3 parts/paragraphs total 5-8 sentences each. (400 single space)

Note that there are 3 parts to this discussion prompt. You are required to answer all three in one paragraph of 5-8 sentences (three paragraphs total).

Part 1: This unit covers many facets (physical, cognitive, emotional) of development during older adulthood. Just like the last unit, we will focus much more on the aging process while cognition and socioemotional development continue to develop and decline (it may be a combination of these). After you review the materials for this week, what are some common experiences and trends that most people can expect? What are some recommendations you would make for supporting healthy aging during older adulthood? What can individuals do to minimize the effects of aging and maximize health and longevity (one paragraph required for part 1)? These questions are similar to the first part of the discussion from the last unit, but note that older adulthood and middle adulthood include different challenges (so please focus on other aspects of aging than you discussed for the last unit). Please make specific connections to your text or another scholarly source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).

Part 2: Explore the section on aging, paying particular attention to the theories that explore genetics and stress. In one paragraph, summarize one of these theories and explain how it is connected to the aging process. How can these ideas inform choices people make in older adulthood or earlier in life to yield a positive quality of life in their later years? Please make specific connections to your text or another credible source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).

Part 3: For part 3, recall that Erikson’s conflict for older adulthood is integrity v. despair. Reflect on what you think this means and how one might find “integrity” rather than “despair” in later life. What recommendations would you offer people as they age to achieve “integrity”? Please make specific connections to your text or another scholarly source to back up your thoughts (you must cite this source).

Your main post should be a minimum of three fully developed paragraphs (5-8 sentences each) and is due by Day 4 of this week (11:59 pm EST). Please respond to at least two peers in a minimum of 100 words each by Day 7 of this week (11:59 pm EST). The goal is to generate active conversation in which you interact respectfully with each other in order to explore various ways of seeing the material.
