Discussion Question
We use sugars and starches to fuel our bodies. Breaking the bonds of these molecules allow us to produce cellular energy in the form of ATP, which can then be used to drive our chemical reactions. Scientists are now using derivatives of these molecules as fuel for our engines and other machines.
In your initial post, answer the following:
Pick a carbohydrate derivative that is being used as a source of fuel. Identify it and its chemical and structural formula and why this structure makes it a useful fuel. Please cite your sources. No duplicate molecules.
Next, comment on at least two of your classmates’ responses. For example, you can consider the following:
For the posts you pick, describe how the fuel’s use is helping the environment and if its use will expand in the future.
