Title: The effects of background sound (beta waves
or top hits) on cognitive performance within college students.

Variables: Background sound. There are three levels listening
to beta waves vs 2010 hits vs no sound.
Operational Definition:The participants will be asked to complete a
lexical decision task (LDT
Link). It will be voluntary and will happen online. The two groups
listening to background music will be provided with a link to a playlist of
background sounds that they will play while performing the Lexical decision
task. The other group (no sound) will be asked to do the task in silence. The
background music will be beta wave sounds(beta waves) and a playlist playing
top hits from 2010 (2010 hits). The data that will be collected accuracy,
response time and number of correct responses.
Hypothesis: – Binaural beats can help your brain create the same waves that are commonly experienced in meditation. When Binaural beats are played in beta the frequencies have been linked to increased concentration and alertness, problem solving and improved memory. Students who completed cognitive tasks while listening to Binaural beta beats will show cognitive improvement compared to those who complete cognitive task while listen to the top hit playlist and in silence. I predict that the student who listen to that binaural beta beats audio will show improvement in all data collected compared to those performing the LDT while listening to the 2010 hits audio and in silence.
