Students will self-select into teams to develop a
supply chain plan for a startup.
The plan should align with a supply chain system with key components including
raw materials, supplier(s), manufacturer, distributor, retailer, and consumer
(i.e., the steps it takes to get the product from its original state to the
customer.
- Now
that we’ve selected Allbirds as our organization we’ll need to develop the
supply chain plan for the organization. However, since Allbirds is an
existing company with a supply chain that’s already producing and selling goods
on the market. I figured we need to either develop a new product
Allbirds can add to their portfolio or introduce a new process that
enhances the capabilities of the existing supply chain. - My idea is to have Allbirds produce handmade,
high-quality shoes made from pure cashmere fabric ethically sourced from goats
living in the Himalayas and Mongolia. Similar to JMM eyeglasses, the shoes
would be made in small batches, greatly increasing the scarcity and the price,
adding to the novelty of the shoes. The typical customer would be
fashion-forward high net worth individuals. This product is a
cross-pollination idea that derived inspiration from Jacques Marie Mage (JMM),
the aforementioned luxury eyewear manufacturer based in Los Angeles. The hope
is this new product will add to Allbirds brand appeal and subsequently increase
its market share.

Sustainability Planning: 4-5 pages
A
sustainability plan should represent an outline of how the
organization plans to achieve goals that create financial, societal,
and environmental sustainability. Informed by the organizational system
and dynamics of the startup, the team should conduct research to develop and
propose an effective sustainability plan. Teams should initially research,
find, and study various sustainability plans to acquire useful insights and
ideas to build their plan for the startup.
