Make sure you present a thesis (also called a thesis statement) and provide detailed evidence from these sources to support your argument.
Essays will be evaluated in four areas: statement of facts; synthesis and analysis; organization of the argument; and grammar and writing.
The length of the essay is 1250 words (+/-100 words), excluding footnotes and bibliography. Use 12-point font, double spaces, and page numbers. Please use 1 assigned reading Soldier and the State: Theory and Politics of Civil-Military Relations, Chapter 4 (Huntington, Samuel P.) and 8 additional outside sources. Reference and cite at least 8 outside scholarly sources in your annotations. Do not use encyclopedias or non-peer-reviewed sources. Internet sources are generally unacceptable unless they are peer-reviewed publications or come from established media organizations or policy think tanks. The format for endnotes and bibliography is the Chicago Manual of Style. The last page will be the bibliography.
