Purpose: Practice applying the theoretical principles from Molly Bang’s Picture This. Practice analyzing a picture book.
Directions:
1) Select a picture book that you have access to (a physical copy). If you have a book already at home, great. Otherwise, a public library has a large selection of children’s books.
2) Write three paragraphs analyzing the picture book using the following prompts per paragraph. Remember, a college-level paragraph should include at least 7 sentences. Use a topic sentence at the beginning of each paragraph.
Paragraph 1: Choose one principle from Molly Bang’s book Picture This to apply to the picture book you have chosen. Use the author and title of the picture book in your topic sentence. Analyze how the principle is demonstrated in the illustrations. When referring to specific illustrations, use correct MLA format for in-text citations.
Paragraph 2: Choose another principle from Molly Bang’s book Picture This to apply to the picture book you have chosen. Analyze how the principle is demonstrated in the illustrations. Paragraph 3: Provide your opinion/evaluation of the illustrations. Did they contribute to the overall message, emotion, and purpose of the book? (This is the only paragraph where you can use first person “I”).
