Use what you learned in the activity about your city’s governmental form (the mayor-council form, the commission form, or the council-manager form) to create/draw a hierarchical chart outlining the basic structure of your local government. You may reference the following chart as an example.

Identify a problem in your community and receive approval from your teacher on its appropriateness.

Your portfolio assignment will be to create a 7 slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation explaining one issue or problem and a plan of action to solve the problem. Create an outline of your PowerPoint presentation.
Your outline should follow this guide:
· Slide 1 – Identify the problem.
· Slide 2 – Explain why it is a problem.
· Slide 3 – Propose possible solutions using appropriate government channels.

Tip: Make sure that your solutions use appropriate government channels. Use what you have learned in this unit so far. Is the problem you selected one that involves state government (legislators or the governor) or something that could be dealt with on a more local level (your city or county)? Incorporate basic facts from the powers and functions of government in your solution. |
