THIS IS A 2 PART
Imagine you are a social media specialist. You have been asked to create a video/presentation for a company’s YouTube channel.
This is a 2 part assignment-both parts need to be completed and submitted
(please know that you can do a written/paper option for the video portion of this assignment; see below)
Part 1: Create an 8- to 10-minute video or a 1500 word paper on how contemporary media shapes cultures and human behaviors, including the role that social media plays in influencing behaviors. Explore the dangers of consuming media that is inaccurate and explain the importance of factchecking. Teach your audience how to fact-check the media that they consume.
Select 3 areas where social media has an impact, such as:
Nutrition
Body image
Violence
Gender issues
Elections
Democracy
Impact on children and/or teens
Select 1 audience from the following list for this portion of the assignment:
Young children
Adolescents
Community
Parents
Teachers and schools
Include & cite at least 3 credible sources for this portion of the assignment.
(if you do a video, just include the references in a reference section at the end of part 2 of this assignment, if you do a paper for part 1, you can include the sources end of the part 1 paper or part 2-whichever is easiest…just want to make sure to include them for me to see)
***If you are not comfortable/not wanting to create a video, you can submit a paper to me instead that will cover the above & then just include the additional reflection below in part 2 within the same paper after this portion of the assignment. I am open and willing to work with you as I know not everyone is comfortable with public speaking & creating a video will also involve imagery, etc..
If you opt to write part 1 in a paper format, to equate 8-10 minutes of speech, as noted above, it would need to be approx. 1500 words for part 1.
Part 2: Reflect on Audience Differentiation (this is a required second part of the week 5 assignment)
Write a 350-word reflection about how the content of the presentation would be different if the audience were different. Discuss the differences between 2 alternative audiences.
*If you opt to create a paper for part 1, just include part 2 in the same paper, as well. Just differentiate by noting in the paper by writing “part 1” and then “part 2” so I can clearly see each part of this assignment. Thank you!
