Hate Speech Should Be Protected Under The First Amendment
cite, summarize, and evaluate the sources you’ve found in your research that will be useful to your group in developing your debate arguments. For each source, begin with a citation using a standard citation format, APA then include a three paragraph annotation for the source. The first paragraph should summarize the article (e.g., What was the topic? What methods were used by the author(s)? What were the author’s main arguments/conclusions?). The second paragraph should evaluate the quality of the source (e.g., Was this a peer reviewed article? Is it a professional journalistic source? If not, to what extent can you establish this source as trustworthy/authoritative in this subject area? Are the source’s arguments/conclusions adequately supported in the article?). The third paragraph should evaluate the usefulness of the source for your group’s debate motion (e.g., What information/data/arguments in the source can be used to build your group’s debate arguments? Is there information in the source that might undermine your group’s position, indicating the need to find good rebuttals to this source?) Overall, the annotation for each source should be roughly 250 words. Each group should submit an annotated bibliography containing at least 8 sources in total, and at least 3 of those sources must be from peer-reviewed academic journals.
