Comparative Analysis. Now that you have selected five (5) cases to analyze in your final paper, it is time for you to conduct a comparative analysis to test if your theories/explanations/factors explain the occurrence of incidents. ‘Comparative analysis’ is a fancy name for comparing and contrasting. Does the theories that you selected played a role in the ALL, SOME, or NONE of the incidents? Were there interactions between these causes? (e.g. strain combined with mental illness). These are the things you must tell the reader. The quality of your analysis depends on how much detailed information you give me all the cases.

Select five relevant cases and give a one paragraph summary.

You must now lay out whether the theories/explanations played a role for the five cases. If the theory played a role, you must tell me the extent of the role. You may give specific examples to illustrate your point. If the theory did not play a role, also explain how it did not play a role. The best way to conduct your analysis is to:

Start with the overall conclusion first (e.g. mental illness played a significant role in all mass murders).

Support this conclusion. How big of a factor was it? How prevalent was it? (i.e. in how many of the cases was this factor present). Give specific examples or anecdotes for each incident to support your point. For instance, saying that mental illness played a role in 4/5 cases is not nearly enough. You must cite specific examples from each case that support that conclusion.

One you have thoroughly examined the theory and give examples, then move to the next theory and do the same thing.

Finally, to summarize your analysis provide a table with a summary of your findings (see Lecture 13).
Format: The essay must be typed and should be at least 4 pages long double spaced. Use Times New Roman, font size 12 throughout the paper. Make sure to use headers to mark the beginning of sections throughout the paper. See the Assignment Rubric in the syllabus for details.
I have included the paper I wrote on the thoeries I chose, as well ass the 6 sources you will use in this paper. I also inlcuded the 5 different mass shootings you will need to refer to. Please talk thuroughly on the thoeries and how it connects with the mass shootings. Don’t forget to also include table at the end.
