Cultural Assessment of an International Market: A Study of Business Practices in an International Market
Overview: This project will require students to conduct a comprehensive cultural assessment of an international market to understand its business practices, social norms, and communication styles. The project will focus on a specific country or region, and students will be required to research and analyze various aspects of the country’s culture that may impact business operations.
Objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the cultural differences that exist in the international market.
- To identify the cultural factors that impact business practices and strategies.
- To develop cultural sensitivity and an ability to adapt to different business environments.
- To develop communication and negotiation skills that are effective in diverse cultural settings.
- To apply theoretical knowledge to real-world business scenarios.
Project Components:
Research and Analysis: Students will conduct extensive research on the target country, including its history, customs, traditions, religion, social norms, and communication styles. They will analyze how these cultural factors affect business practices in the country, including marketing, sales, distribution, and customer service.
Cultural Training Program: Students will develop a cultural training program for a Canadian business looking to expand operations into the target country. The training program will cover cultural norms, business practices, communication styles, and negotiation strategies that are relevant to the target country.
Deliverables: Students will provide a written report of their research findings (Max. 10 pages) and cultural training program video (Max. 3 minutes) to the class.
Assessment Criteria: The project will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- Depth and breadth of research conducted on the target country’s culture.
- Relevance of the information provided in the report on cultural competence.
- Effectiveness and Impact of the cultural training Program developed.
- Clarity and organization of the written report and video presentation.
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world business scenarios.
