CIL505-M8 Response to Reading: Collaborating to support Emergent Bilingual learners

This assignment asks you to summarize and reflect on the assigned readings, highlighting at least three instances of new learning for you, with relevant application of these ideas to your own current or future teaching.

Purpose:

The course materials present several ways that educators can collaborate to support Emergent Bilingual learners. Drawing on these resources, including the WIDA sample collaborative learning process (Module 4), strategies for developing content-area literacy (Module 7, The Translanguaging Classroom chapter 9), and principles for establishing a culture of shared responsibility (this module, TESOL chapter 5), make a plan to collaborate.

Submission:

• Select a collaborator: Focus your plan on a collaborating content teacher, ESL teacher colleague, principal, program/curriculum director, specialist, or any school support staff. Explain your choice and the goals of your collaboration.
• Suggest strategies for collaboration, referencing course materials and explaining how these strategies will support Emergent Bilingual learners. Identify any resources you may need for the collaboration to be successful (time, professional development, community resources, bilingual translation, etc.).
• Identify any issues or barriers you might encounter and how you will manage them.
• Include quotes from the readings as applicable, with page number and explanation for your choice.
