LEAD9104 Strategic Issue and Strategy Evaluation Assignment Guidance
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to analyze and evaluate key components of a strategic plan associated with an organization of your choosing.
Products:
The final assignment will include two components: 1) a copy of the strategic plan used by the self-selected organization (attached or linked) and 2) a written critique of the strategic plan that analyzes and evaluates the organization’s strategic planning process and product.
Format:
The written critique will follow APA guidelines. The organization’s strategic plan will be included in a separate attachment when submitting the assignment.
Notes:
- You are only required to reference the organization’s strategic plan when it is first introduced in the paper and when you quote from the plan. Use APA style for both in text citations and on the separate reference page.
- Any interviews are to be cited using APA style requirements.
- The written paper should be approximately 8-12 pages in length and demonstrate doctoral level quality of work.
Content:
You may use the same organization you used for the Strategic Plan Evaluation assignment or you may select a different organization. The strategic plan evaluation should focus the following 3 components. There is great flexibility in what you include under each of the components as each organization is different but some guidance is provided.
- Overview of the Organization: Describe the organization that you selected:
- Describe the organization, its programs, organizational structure, location, demographics, resources, etc.
- If you are using the same organization, you may include same or similar information you provided in your Strategic Planning Evaluation assignment. If you have selected a different organization, you will need to write a new overview for the new organization.
- Strategic Issues and Action Plan: Evaluate the selection of Strategic Issues and the corresponding action items.
- Review and analyze the major strategic issues (sometimes referred to as goals) identified by the organization in the strategic plan.
- Create a Strategic Issue Statement for at least 2 of the major strategic issues identified in the strategic plan. (Refer to SP Chapters 6 and 7 plus Worksheets 35-37 for suggestions)The challenges are in bold. for the pages mentioned. - If you are unable to complete a portion of the Strategy Statement because you do not have the information, your evaluation should include how that missing information impacts the action planning portion of the strategic plan.
- Evaluate the alignment of the action plan strategies and/or objectives to the strategic issues you identified for Strategic Issue Statements.
- Are the strategies and/or objectives measurable and do they include the critical elements of SMART goals (specific, measurable, accountable, realistic, and timely)?
- Are the strategies and/or objectives likely to improve the organization as they are tasked to do?
- How effective would you anticipate the strategies and/or objectives will be in reaching the goal? Explain your opinion and thinking.
- Were any strategies and/or objectives not included in the strategic plan? Why do you think they may have been excluded?
- Provide your overall evaluation of the organization’s strategic plan as it relates to Bryson’s Strategic Change Cycle.
