There are many instances where companies simply reproduce their performance management and reward management techniques to their international locations. However, this approach may be ineffective because the local culture in places abroad may not identify with the systems followed; therefore, they may lead to failure in motivating and retaining talent.
Be sure your paper addresses the following:
- Develop an introduction about the importance of global performance management.
- Discuss how performance management and rewards support companies in developing and retaining their talented employees.
- Explain how performance management can be adapted to country-specific examples. Provide an example of a country (e.g., Mexico, China, South Korea, Japan) to support your answers. Check your resources for this week for examples. Be as specific as possible in your discussions.
- Conclude with a brief discussion about the reasons universal/standardized performance management systems across countries might be effective sometimes. For example, some companies choose not to adapt performance management systems (or some aspects of it) to local contexts, while other companies may elect to customize them to local conditions. Explain briefly why some companies may want to keep their system universal/standardized across regions (without any adaptations). Check your resources for this week for additional support.
