Narrative paragraph – the transition from middle school(st. Peters) to high school(our lady of lourdes or OLL)

Henry Louis Gates shows the reader through his story how he learned about racism, specifically subtle racism,  as a child. In “My Mother Never Worked,” Bonnie Smith-Yackel includes a telephone conversation that shows how her definition of “work” is different from the US Government’s definition. Both Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s recollection of the conversation with Mr. Wilson and Bonnie Smith-Yackel’s recollection of the phone conversation indicate that the author has experienced an awakening that expanded their point of view. Write a narrative paragraph of at least 200-250 words that depicts a time when an incident or event led to an awakening or a realization for you. Be sure to focus just on detailing the event.
