Report to be Australia based example in the Community Services sector focusing on homelessness and mental health is possible.
TOPIC 1 ASSESSMENT: Individual Report
Value-adding to Business as Usual –
applying a Social Impact approach to a real-world program or service.
Choose a longstanding program or service at your
place of work, or an organisation you aspire to work in, that seeks to tackle a
complex social problem and improve the lives of people in whole communities.
Write a report for a new Manager in the organization
that introduces the concept of Social Impact to them through a detailed summary
of a (hypothetical) review process you have undertaken to develop a new
approach to tackling identified the complex social problem. Your report
will include a proposal for the Manager’s consideration for a redesigned
program or service.
Tips from Module One
- Choose
the social problem that interests you, and then look at program or service
that claims to positively impact that issue. - Homelessness
and Mental Health - Utilise
the process of creating social impact to help structure your report. - Describe
the organization and the program – TSA Background - Identify
and analyze the complex social problem – Reason why SHP is needed - As
you write your report, identify how you are applying the principles of
social impact to the process. - Principles
of Social Impact - Intentionality
– To provide much need support to people leaving with a mental health diagnosis
the support to maintain their homes and not be at risk of homelessness as
existing services only work in a specific area i.e. either homelessness
or mental health and never both which results in most people getting
separate support and it never helps to actually fix the problem. - Collaboration
and Co-Operation – agreement with DDHS, Corps, House 49, TEAM Health, NT
Health, TEMRHS, KMHRS - System
Thinking (Holistic Approach) – Looking at what already is in place and
what is missing or needed to add or amended to make support for people
living with Mental health more supported when it comes to maintaining
their homes and getting appropriate accommodation in areas that can
support them. - Evidence-informed
- Sustainability
- Continuous
Improvement and Learning
Tips from Module Two
- Consider
what components of Results Based Accountability or Collective Impact might
be valuable for your report. - Think
about the best approach for any collaboration that you might include in
your report. - In
analysing your complex social problem and creating a new response from
your organisation, consider time frames and processes that lead to
sustainable social impact.
Tips from Module Three
- Who
are the actors and enablers in the Social Impact ecosystem connected to
your chosen: - Complex
social problem - Organisation
- Program
or Service? - What
is the role/s of these actors and enablers in creating your proposal? - How
are you going to ensure the actors and enablers of the ecosystem work
together to create positive social change?
Tips from Module Four
- Identify
opportunities for collaboration in your review process. - Explore
appropriate types of collaboration to maximise the impact of your review
and/or the new program or service. - Consider
how the original, existing program or services was established, and how
your approach is/can be different to strengthen impact. - Who
would need to be at the table to challenge the traditional narrative about
the existing program or service? Whose voices could contribute towards a
change agenda?
Consider how Collective
Impact as a framework for social change can influence your thinking about your
review and redesign of an organisation’s program or service
