MASTER’S LEVEL PAPER.
Students will develop a written manual that provides all the information needed to
implement your career program with your specific population. The manual should include a description
of the career- and work-related issues of the target population (citing relevant research and literature),
of the format of the program (i.e., individual, group, number of interventions/session, etc.), the
theoretical underpinnings of the program and the goals of the intervention (which should be consistent
with the theory; for example, if you are using SCCT the goals will most likely involve more accurate self
efficacy and outcome expectations), expected outcomes of the program for the individuals involved,
and a description of the activities involved. There is no specific page minimum or limit, as each
program will be unique; however, a manual less than 10 pages would not likely contain enough detail
to help another practitioner implement your program.
The manual will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Comprehensive description of the career needs/issues for your population, (including citations for at
least 5 articles/chapters), and with an understanding of the larger contextual issues influencing the
lives of your population;
Extent to which the chosen theory(ies) address(es) the major issues of the population and the degree
of consistency between the theory of choice and your goals. You should have at least one citation for
the theory used;
Appropriateness of the goals and outcomes chosen for the program given the specific characteristics
of your population, their needs/issues and contextual factors, and the choice of most appropriate
theory;
Feasibility of the program (could another practitioner implement your program, assuming they had
all the resources?); and
Organization, clarity of presentation and ideas, creativity, grammar, and APA style.
