Also when writing the brief using the following headings:
- Citation: Use the citation at the top of the case. This is the only citation you need. It is a global citation to the case.
- Facts: Briefly summarize the key facts in the case
- Issue: Frame the key legal issue in the case as a question. Note that some cases have one issue and others have two or three. The “issue(s)” of a case are the central legal question(s) considered by the court
- Holding: Answer the question posed in the Issue section with a “Yes” or “No.”
- Rationale: Describe why the court ruled the way it did. Let the reader know if the court relied on a particular case, law, and/or facts to reach its conclusion.
