Choose two of the following ethical frameworks: Socrates’ unique ethical philosophy, Kant’s deontology, Mill’s utilitarianism, and Beauvoir’s existentialism.
For each framework, explain what you believe to be its most important principles or ideas, and provide an example of how it might be applied to a real-life ethical dilemma.
Next, choose one of these frameworks with which you most agree and one with which you most disagree. Explain your reasoning for each choice, citing specific examples or situations that illustrate why you find certain principles more or less compelling. Finally, reflect on how you might apply the principles of the ethical framework with which you most agree to a situation in which you are faced with an ethical dilemma. How might this framework guide your decision-making, and what are the potential limitations or drawbacks of this approach? Similarly, reflect on how you might approach an ethical dilemma from the perspective of the framework with which you most disagree, and what the limitations or drawbacks of this approach might be.
Your essay should be approximately 1000-1500 words in length, and should demonstrate a clear understanding of each ethical framework and its key principles. You should provide specific examples and evidence to support your arguments, and should draw connections between these ethical frameworks and your own experiences and beliefs. In academic writing, we typically use third person point of view and include in-text citations to properly attribute sources. However, for this personal reflection essay, you are permitted to use first person point of view. Remember to cite your sources using APA format, and use proper citation formatting for both in-text citations and your reference list. You may also wish to include direct quotations from the texts to support your arguments, but these should not be counted towards your total word count.
