Learning Goal: I’m working on a psychology project and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

For this assignment, you will submit an edited version of the research proposal that was the final project for PSY 510. Editing and incorporating feedback are two of the key skills that researchers need to master in order to produce high-quality writing. Indeed, all peer-reviewed articles have been written and rewritten many times; they are never completed in only one draft!

Rather than merely submitting the same version of the assignment that you submitted in PSY 510, it is important that you edit and improve the paper based on the feedback provided by your PSY 510 instructor. In addition to that feedback, please also refer to the Milestone One Guidelines PDF document.

It is OK to make changes to your research question, hypothesis, or research methods, but please clear any substantial changes such as completely changing the problem statement with your instructor.

In this class, you will be collecting and analyzing data in an attempt to answer your research question. Before you do this, however, it is important that you have your research proposal (i.e., your PSY 510 paper) in a very strong shape. Your research proposal will form the building block for the full research paper that you will submit in this course. Please remember, research proposals that ask questions around diagnosable mental health disorders, suicide, or abuse of any kind will not be allowed.

As you revise your PSY 510 paper, be sure to take into account the feedback from your instructor from PSY 510. In addition, use the list below as a guide for how to revise your paper into an exemplary research proposal. As you revise your paper, be sure to think about how you will go from a proposal to an actual research project as you will be using your research proposal from PSY 510 to help complete.

Hi Stella,

Please take some time before Research Methods II to review my feedback so you are ready to jump in and get started on that class. Additional feedback in rubric.

You have a nice introduction to your paper–I would add in a few more citations to support that statements you are making. You’ll want to take out the “I” statements and just say it. It will sound more like a professional paper, which is why we are going for in this research proposal.

The preliminary research question is different from the research question in your study, so you will want to have them match. The research question under the research question section is the stronger of the two questions. You would not put the abstracts or complete reference in the actual paper–that was a separate exercise for an assignment. The paper needs to have the literature review written out in paragraphs. Please fix this for Research Methods II. You’ll want to take out all that except for the section called Literature Review.

You will not have enough students to break the research into 4 groups. You’ll will have some challenges finding people with learning disabilities–remember you are only having Research Methods students, so you can ask if they have a learning disability or not (yes/no). Then you can ask about service interruptions (yes/no). You may wish to ask additional questions on this as you’ll need to see how others have done this. But, that way, you will have a bigger sample. You will also be able to tell if people with learning disabilities had the same or different issues. The survey is how you will collect the data. The instrument you use to measure impact of service interruption is a measure that will be in the survey. You cannot do an interview or a focus group–I have provided that feedback in the past. It is very important that you do not do that. You are not trained to do interviews and focus groups, so that is not permitted for this class. You will be able to do a survey through Qualtrics.

You cannot collect data in multiple timepoints–you will be able to do a survey at one point in time. Please take some time to think this through in preparation for Research Methods II.

For the data analysis, you will do descriptive data as well as some of the procedures that you have learned in SPSS–you’ll want to list them. Please do not just copy a procedure by Blanca et al. (2018). They had a bigger sample, and interaction terms in a regression model is beyond what you will be able to do in a survey, especially since the survey will have somewhere around 5 to 10 participants. The participants will not complete anything before the survey, and you will not have an intervention–please take some time to thing about what you are adding in here. You will be doing a survey.
