Overall Revision
suggestions for revisions:
1) You’ll want to take your statements that describe trends or effects in general terms and make them more specific based on the evidence. For example, anywhere you say something improves a skill or that experiences vary or that a setting is problematic, you want to follow that up with specific data from your sources that shows it – something like “students who received X intervention engaged in tantrums ## fewer times per week [Author, year)” or “x% of students with ASD placed in X type of classroom demonstrated improved well-being according to parent ratings, but X% showed improvement when moved into Y type of classroom (Author, year)” This gives the reader a very concrete idea of what improvement or variation looks like. Including evidence like this throughout the paper would strengthen your claims.
2) In a number of paragraphs, you start out with one main idea but jump to another. As you work on your revisions, try imagining what a simple statement of the point of that paragraph is (or even what a good heading would be) and make sure that every sentence matches up to that statement/heading. If it doesn’t, then you might be blending topics too much and should consider separating them into multiple paragraphs. I’ve marked a couple examples in your draft.
3) I also made some annotations about organization, particularly where you talk about pros and cons of each educational setting. It jumps a bit from pros of one setting to cons of another, and even though those points might be related, it’s easy for the reader to get lost. This is important information for setting up your conclusion about the value of inclusion, so you want them to finish with a clear and complete understanding of these comparisons. You could imagine how you would set this up in a grid graphic organizer comparing them, and use that structure in your writing – going in order from cell to cell.
4) Make sure all claims in conclusion are adequately addressed/supported in body. Some of the statements at the end about the strengths of inclusion were a little bit of a surprise or felt like you hadn’t fully discussed it.
5) You made a great first pass of including pros and cons of each setting. To present your argument in favor of inclusion while still being balanced and giving your reader a complete understanding of the issue, go a bit deeper into what types of students might benefit most from different settings/levels of service given their needs and the pros/cons of that setting. Also, acknowledging that there might be some “tricky cases” of students whose challenges in inclusive settings might seem to outweigh the benefits they’d experience – what does the research say about these cases and the students’/teachers experiences trying to be inclusive? What does it take to be inclusive in every case, and does this truly comply with IDEA and individualized educational planning? Tell us how you arrive at your conclusion even after considering these points.
6) Watch out for details – indenting the first line of paragraphs, APA format in your references, etc.

Driving Question:
βHow does the lack of inclusion in the education system impact children with autism?β
- The argumentative essay:
- you will be taking a stance, and must provide different points of view. The persuasive approach, in which you present a clear stance throughout
– The infographic link below should be used as an outline on things that needs to be further addressed in the essay

*make sure the CLAIM supports the EVIDENCE and REASONING
* In addition to identifying how many students have autism, you will want to provide a brief definition of ASD.
* You will want to explain what inclusion is and how it’s implemented.
* You will want to present the placements for children with autism – how many are fully included? How many receive pull out services? How many are in self-contained classes? Who is in the different placements?
* What are the outcomes and experiences for children with autism in the different placements? What evidence is there that noninclusive placements harm children with autism?
-encouraged to do additional research use at least 10 sources (7 must be peer-reviewed journal articles) so that you can use evidence effectively. Please use APA format.
