In your first blog assignment, write a 500-to-700-word post and
introduce yourself to the rest of the class. Who are you? How would
you define yourself? Who are the people and places that are most
important to you? What do you love to do when you are not at the
university, studying and preparing for your bright future? What are
your future goals and aspirations?
Along with that introduction, I would also like you to reflect on the
course syllabus for SOC 232 and this week’s power point lecture.
Given this overview to the course and, given the things that you will be
learning in SOC 232, start to discuss and explore how these skills will
be useful to you in your future career or graduate work.
• Are you currently studying to be a nurse?
• Do you plan to work in the field of social work?
• Are you studying to do sociology?
• Do you plan to work in the field of public health?
• Or, are you planning to work in the field of epidemiology?
• Or, are you planning to work in the field of epidemiology?
•
Whatever field you are currently studying and plan to work in the
future, start to think about how the skills of data analysis and scientific
report writing will be useful to you (and your community) as you move
forward. How might learning the scientific method and scientific report
writing help you in the future to answer or address important scientific
questions within the broader fields of social science, medical research
and/or public health? If you are stumped, feel free to ask one of your
professors on how these skills will be useful to you in your chosen
field!
Use (and underline) the following concepts and terms when
developing your blog post: Research questions, the scientific method,
survey research, data analysis and report-writing. These terms will
constitute your “five concepts or terms” when writing this week’s blog.
Remember, in future posts, you will always be required to apply five
concepts and terms from the lecture material when writing your blogs.
This week I am giving you the terms just to help everyone get in a
good habit from the start!
Please be sure to write at least 500 words describing yourself, your course of study, and your interest in social statistics.
