Within the essay, explore Artaud’s views of theatre and the way in which these views are shared by twentieth-century playwrights as exemplified in the following plays:

  • Garcia Lorca – The Dream of Life
  • Arrabal – Picnic on the Battlefield
  • Sirera – The Audition
Formatting:
  1. Introduction
  2. Main body (paragraphs as necessary)
  3. Conclusion
For the main body:
  • You could either break the essay down to list Artaud’s views of theatre and with each view/paragraph discuss how these views are supported within each of the plays.
  • OR you could break the essay down into 3 sections, one for each of the plays, and explore all of the supported views throughout each play.
Texts and Referencing
  1. These are the 3 primary texts. When analysing the play, include quotes from the plays to support analysis/argument.  In brackets, include the line number the quote is from: (line xx – yy).
  2. The other 5 sources are secondary sources. I have attached necessary articles related to the plays which can be used and referenced. When referencing a secondary source, make sure to analyse the quote and/or link it back to the point being made.
  3. For in-text referencing, write the author’s last name, year of publication and page number of quote. Example: (Knopf 2015: 167). This is for any plays, articles, texts, books that are referenced.
  4. For the Bibliography, split into 2 sections and list the primary texts at the top, and then the secondary texts below.
