Caregiving Responsibilities

For this Assignment, you will research and summarize psychological theories of development, stages of development, and mental health issues and biopsychosocial factors. Then, you will develop a case study of an older adult which will include detail on their stage of development and an examination of their mental health issues. You will present this information as a 20-slide PowerPoint presentation.

Using the Unit 4 Assignment Template, please address each of the following:

Slide 1: Title Slide

Slide 2-5: Psychological Theories of Development

• Create one slide for each theorist (Erikson, Peck, Levinson, and Neugarten) and include the following for each:
  • Provide a brief overview of their theory.
  • List each of the stages of later life development and provide a brief description of each.

Slide 6-7: Stage of Development

• Select one of the four theorists.
• Using the Unit 4 Resource Guide, select one research article for your chosen theorist and provide the following:
  • Summarize the findings of the article.
  • Identify relevant critiques or updates to the original theory.

Slide 8-11: Mental health issues and Biopsychosocial factors

• Using Chapter 3 of your text, identify and describe three common mental health issues experienced in later life development.
• Identify the key elements of biopsychosocial factors
• Identify some potential biopsychosocial factors that might be contributing to the mental health issues.
• Describe the significance of maintaining social interactions and avoiding isolation and loneliness.

Slide 12-15: Client Profile

• Develop a case study of an older adult. Include the following profile information: age (must be 65 or over), gender, race, social-economic status, marriage status, children, etc.
  • This summary should be at least 8 complete sentences, and include sufficient detail about the client. Be creative and use your imagination to summarize the client’s experiences, current life, and mental health.
• Using the theorist you selected above, identify the stage of development for this client.
  • Relate the theory/stage of development to client’s current life.
• Analyze potential biopsychosocial factors that are occurring in your client’s environment.
  • Relate their mental health issues to the biopsychosocial factors.
  • Analyze the importance of social support and family relationships on the aging client.

Slide 16-18: Interventions

• Based on your assessments of the client, identify resources that you can recommend for the client.
  • Consider the important role of social/family networks. Describe how these relationships provide natural support to the client.
  • Identify three community resources appropriate for the client and provide a brief description of the services that each resource provides.
    • Include specific contact details for each (including the website, phone number, and/or physical address).

Slide 19: Conclusion

• Summarize some takeaways from your research that you can apply to your future role as a human service professional working with the aging population.
