Businesses Can Vote!
Prompt: Provide a critical analysis of how the revolutionary leaders convinced the lower-class Americans (peasants, farmers, laborers, etc.) to join the armed struggle against England. In other words, poor people had absolutely nothing to gain in the fight for independence; they did not own property, could not vote, and the revolutionary leaders were not promising them a new social order, hence, why rebel if “Tyranny is Tyranny?” In short, the revolutionary leaders had to consciously “manufactured consent” among the lower class to join the revolution. Please analyze this process. Again, do not discuss any tax issue or representation issue or any other issue that suggests that the colonist were “oppressed” and then they decided to rebel. Do not discuss the Stamp Act, Intolerable Acts, Navigation Act, US Constitution, or any other historical event or concept that led towards independence. This is NOT the prompt of the question. This approach is the typical “master narrative” approach. Again, this is NOT a discussion on how the colonists were “oppressed” or the actual steps towards independence. Your discussion must revolve around how the elite convinced the poor to fight, to join the revolutionary army, to put their lives on the line when they had absolutely nothing to gain……good luck!
.
Very important and yes one MORE time!
.
Again, this is NOT an analysis on how the colonists became independent. Please do NOT write an essay on the factors leading up to the independence movement, but rather on the historical conditions that “convinced” ordinary, propertyless, and disenfranchised people to join the fight for independence. What historical or contemporary 18th-century forces came into play which “united” the ordinary colonist against England? Again, this is NOT an essay on how the colonists became independent from England but on how they were “convinced” to join the Continental Army! In short, how did the American Revolutionary leadership “manufactured the consent” of ordinary farmers?
Please provide a critical commentary on the issue below. Make sure you provide evidence from the readings to substantiate any generalizations.
Length: Please keep your essay to four (4) to five (5) paragraphs in length. Each paragraph must consist of five to eight sentences. This is a very sensitive topic. Students with excellent writing and critical thinking skills will obviously use this format effectively. Students with “challenging” writing skills will find a need to write more, however, please do not write excessively! I strongly recommend that students whose writing is somewhat challenged should stay within the confines of the four or five-paragraph format, In light of the fact that this assignment has been available for weeks, then I strongly encourage all students to work aggressively on the four to five-paragraph format
