The individual case study is a short research paper of 800-1000 words (double-spaced) in which the student investigates a piece of anime music, a person, or an organization related to anime that is not limited to Japanese anime (the object of study can be the same as the one in the final project). While the specific research topic is flexible, the theme of the paper should be around transnationality and/or the construction of “Japaneseness.”
Students should present:
1. A clear research question
What do you want to explore about this anime-related object? What of transnationalism and/or the construction of Japaneseness do you want to think through this object?
2. A structured writing
If you are citing any sources, please use either APA or Chicago citation format.
Ideas should be grouped into paragraphs and/or sections.
3. Individual interpretation and/or reflection
While referencing different popular and/or academic sources is encouraged, the sources should be supplementary to forming your ideas.
