I want a research report for Impact of Environmental Factors on Childhood Asthma Prevalence underlying physiological pathology. It should be 700-1000 words for the body of the report, the citation page does not count), and approximately 3-4 pages.
Your report must contain the following:
- An overview of the topic and its significance. You should also include in your report the background of the disease, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment.
- The focus of your report should be the mechanism(s) behind the disease and the physiological processes disrupted by the disease. In your own words, write a summary of the physiology involved as you understand it – do not simply repeat the material in the articles you have collected. Discuss how your researched information relates to topics we have discussed in Biology 6. I want to see that you are making connections between material we have discussed in class and how it relates to issues in the “real world”. For example, if you are reading an article on diabetes this section may include: 1) Factors contributing to maintaining/reducing blood glucose levels; and 2) how elevated blood glucose levels effect the kidneys, nervous tissue, blood vessels, ect. Be specific!
Additionally, while you are researching your topic and when writing the context of your report, think about or address some of the following questions: (please keep these in mind, but you do NOT need to answer each of these questions to have a complete paper)
- When reviewing your sources, think about where and who this information is coming from. Do they have credentials that make you confident the science is accurate and believable? Explain.
- Do your sources have any possible biases? Do they have any conflicts of interest? Explain.
- A reference page containing appropriate and accurate citation information for all your sources. This means providing everything necessary for someone else to find the same material. You need to use APA format and be consistent throughout the report. You should have at least 3 credible primary or secondary sources. You should be looking for actual articles and papers on your topic. Proquest is a database in our library that is a great place to start. Sources from a general information web page like Wikapedia can be used but they do NOT count as one of the 3 credible secondary sources.
- Your report must be 700-1000 words typed, double-spaced, twelve-point font, (about 3- 4 pages). A total of up to 100 points can be earned for the writing of the paper. The amount of points earned will be dependent on grammar, organization, and the content of your paper. Remember to include a reference page! (See the rubric on the next page for grading criteria).
Keep in mind that your reports must be relevant to this course, Biology 6. Ask me to make sure your choice is appropriate for this class. It is important that you use the terms and concepts learned in this class. All reports must be typed, not handwritten.
